Milling and Drying - The EcoTech Cyclonic Drying Mill
Milling and Drying are fundamental operations in almost all biomaterials processing. The range of techniques available for these purposes is very wide, and each has its own combination of technical and financial impacts.
Cyclonic drying is a long-known technique for dehydrating and comminuting materials, but could only be operated in a batch mode. Our patented airflow stabilising system allows the dryer to be operated continuously, and for particle size reduction to be controlled. Because of the very high air velocities developed, the consequent pressure drop leads to explosive evaporation of water, even at low temperatures, so materials can be processed with very low thermal impact, if required.
The EcoTech Cyclonic Drying Mill Provides a unique combination of operating, financial and product property benefits, giving it potential applications throughout the biomaterials processing spectrum:

The EcoTech Cyclonic Drying Mill Provides a unique combination of operating, financial and product property benefits, giving it potential applications throughout the biomaterials processing spectrum:
- Materials are dried with very low thermal impact, in that solids and liquids may be entrained in a relatively cool airstream, and removed dry and stabilised in a few seconds (Click here for examples);
- Explosive decompression causes complex biomaterials to fragment along natural internal boundaries (Click here for examples);
- Simple construction, small footprint and limited moving parts reduce capital and maintenance costs;
- Easily scaled from a module specified for 300kg/hr water evaporated.
